November 18, 2024
The Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago (FHLBank Chicago) awarded Andy’s Up North a grant of $15,000 through its Community First® Accelerate Grants for Small Business program. FHLBank Chicago offers grants of up to $30,000 to eligible small businesses to advance economic opportunity in the communities it serves.

Grant funds will be used to structurally improve the entry to the business and purchase a commercial heating unit.
“Opportunities to get additional funds to improve downtown businesses like the Community First Accelerate Grants is a gift to those of us dedicated to serving and employing in smaller communities,” commented Andy Lichtfuss, owner of Andy’s Pontoon Saloon. “We can often provide a spark to the downtown district and create a sense of community by providing a space for residents and visitors to gather. Using the grant funds, our improvements will allow us extend our operating hours and bring more revenue to the community.”

“Small businesses play an integral role in local communities in driving economic growth, from creating jobs to fostering community development,” said Katie Naftzger, Senior Vice President, Community Investment Officer, FHLBank Chicago. “As a leader in the housing and community development space, FHLBank Chicago recognizes that affordable housing isn’t just about the homes themselves—it’s about ensuring entire communities have what they need to thrive, including economic opportunities for the residents and small businesses who call them home.”
The grant was sponsored by Forward Bank, a customer-owned, independent community bank who operates to benefit its depositors while offering no fee deposit options, lower lending fees and rates. The Bank continues to be community-orientated by proudly supporting local clubs, businesses, sports, organizations, and schools.
“I chose Andy's Up North as a grant recipient because Andy's Pontoon Saloon is making a substantial difference to Eagle River's Main Street,” stated Brian Fritz, AVP/Commercial Lender at Forward Bank in Three Lakes and St. Germain. “The business attracts significant crowds, which in turn keeps patrons downtown and shopping for longer. Andy's Pontoon Saloon is also very active in the community, donating their space and time for several events.”
